Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Abbott Asplin was one of the few remaining professional players from the 1930s at the time of his death in 2014.
He played for the Allentown Dukes of the Boston Braves organization in 1939, hitting .323 with 7 home runs and a .492 slugging percentage in 79 games. In 1940, he hit .301 with 115 hits in 105 games for the Bradford Bees, also in the Braves system. He suited up for the unaffiliated Erie Sailors in 1941, hitting .267 in 60 games. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Asplin returned to pro ball briefly with the Lancaster Red Roses of the Philadelphia Athletics system in 1944, hitting .326 in 12 games.
Overall, Asplin hit .302 with 294 hits in 256 games over four seasons.
