AOL Time Warner

AOL Time Warner, a media conglomerate, owned the Atlanta Braves from 1996 to 2007, although until 2003, former owner Ted Turner continued to run things. They sold the Braves to Liberty Media on May 16, 2007.

Turner, who had owned the Braves since 1976, had retained the team's principal ownership position even after his Turner Broadcasting media empire had been sold to Time Warner in 1996. He managed to hold on to the position of team principal after the 2000 merger between the upstart American Online (AOL) and the venerable Time Warner Corporation. However, in 2003, he was pushed aside as a result of corporate maneuverings at the parent company. Steve Case, who had been the principal owner of America Online before the merger, took over as team principal on an interim basis in 2003, but relinquished the position to Dick Parsons, who had been the chairman of Time Warner, until the 2007 sale.
