In scouting terms, 80 represents a perfect grade, as prospects have their tools evaluated on a scale that runs from 20 to 80. Such a grade is given only extremely rarely, with notable recipients being Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (for hitting); Joey Gallo (for power); Billy Hamilton (for speed); Francisco Lindor (for defence); and Jose Fernandez (for his fastball).
80 was one of the last 4 uniform numbers not to have been worn in the major leagues, along with 86, 89, and 92.
