710 ESPN
710 ESPN is an AM sports radio station which serves the Puget Sound region in Washington. Carrying the call letters KIRO, this station was known as 710 KIRO beginning in 1937. It went through a few format changes until the mid 70s; at this time it settled into a news/talk format. On April 1, 2009, the news/talk programming was moved to 97.3 FM, replacing an oldies station (KBSG), and the sports format and current branding was instituted. Because the sports format was instituted on opening day, M's spring training games were broadcast on 97.3 FM, which was simulcasting most of 710 KIRO's programming in the month of March; this gave listeners a month to adjust to both stations format changes.
It has been the radio home of the Seattle Mariners since its format change. Previously, M's games were broadcast on KOMO 1000 News from 2003 to 2008. It also broadcast Mariners baseball from 1985 (when it took over from KVI AM) to 2002.
710 ESPN station is also the radio home of the Seattle Seahawks. If a Seahawks game and a Mariners game are scheduled simultaneously, the M's game has shifted to sister station 770 KTTH during both stints as M's radio home.
