From BR Bullpen

The 2008 Central League Rookie of the Year Award went to middle reliever Tetsuya Yamaguchi of the Yomiuri Giants, who had gone 11-2 with 2 saves and a 2.32 ERA. Yamaguchi was a rare Rookie of the Year for the Central League, having started his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the minor leagues before coming to Nippon Pro Baseball. Fellow Giants player, SS Hayato Sakamoto, was runner-up with 49 votes to Yamaguchi's 91. Hanshin Tigers P Minoru Iwata picked up 32 votes. One voter abstained.
