2,000 Runs[edit]

The 2,000 runs club is not as famous a club as the 500 Home Run Club or the 3,000 hit club but it is much more exclusive. Only the truly great players in history have managed to cross the plate 2,000 times in their career. There have been only 8 players who have joined the 2,000 run club during their career. All but two of them are members of the Hall of Fame, but the Hall has withheld membership from Pete Rose and Barry Bonds for reasons other than their play on the field. Rickey Henderson is the all-time leader in career runs scored, having scored 2,295 runs over his career. Ty Cobb was the charter member of the 2,000 runs club, reaching the mark on June 29, 1925. Cobb scored all of his runs in the American League. Willie Mays was the first player to score 2,000 runs in the National League; he did so on September 28, 1971.

Records and Trivia[edit]

Babe Ruth was both the fastest and the youngest player in MLB history to score 2,000 runs. He scored his 2,000th run in his 2,231st game at the age of 38 years, 88 days old. Barry Bonds was the fastest player to reach 2,000 runs in the National League, as he reached the mark in his 2,635th game. Hank Aaron was the youngest player in National League history to score 2,000 runs; he was 39 years, 102 days old when he reached the mark. Pete Rose was the oldest player and took the most games to reach 2,000 runs. He reached the mark in his 3,106th game at 41 years, 364 days old.
