5 SB, no runs scored

Posted by Andy on January 1, 2009

Happy 2009!

Jayson Stark's year-in-review column on ESPN right here notes that Willy Tavarez stole 5 bases in a game but didn't score a run.

In fact, he's the only guy to do that since 1956. Here are all the guys to steal at least 4 bases with no runs scored since 1956. You'll note that Tavarez is the only guy with 5.

Wow, Vince Coleman did it 3 different times. Although it says more about his teammates than it does about him, it also helps support the argument that he was not a terribly valuable player.

My favorite part of this list is Vince Coleman. He appears three times, and twice (#7 & #8) he stole 4 bases in a game without even registering a hit. In his game vs the Expos. He Only walked once, and reached on an error another time. Meaning on of his two strikeouts was dropped for a free pass. Classic Vince
