4+ RBI with at most 1 hit and no runs scored

Posted by Andy on July 3, 2010

A-Rod just had a day like that--4 RBI, 1 hit, no runs scored. It doesn't happen too often. Here are all the times it's been done since 2006:

Most guys use the same formula--a 2-run or 3-run double, and a sacrifice fly and/or RBI groundout.

Chipper Jones was the last guy to have 5 RBI in this scenario. The last guy to do it with zero hits was Ben Petrick in 2000. He did it with 2 RBI groundouts, a sacrifice fly, and a bases-loaded walk. Not bad.

One Response to “4+ RBI with at most 1 hit and no runs scored”

  1. Matt Vandermast Says:

Chipper Jones was the last guy to have 5 RBI in this scenario....

On a related note, that was one of 16 times Chipper Jones reached his career high of 5 RBI in one game. No one else has more 5+ RBI games in the database without having at least one 6+ RBI game.

Unfortunately, I'm having technical problems creating a link.
