Longest Post-Season Losing Streaks
Posted by Raphy on October 7, 2010
The Twins lost their 11th consecutive post-season game tonight. This ties the Phillies for the second longest post-season streak. Of course they're not quite comparable; the Phillies' streak occurred over 62 years and the Twins' streak in just 7. Here are the longest streaks before today.

According to the TBS broadcasters, they've been outscored by the Yankees 18-2 in their most recent games. The broadcaster went on to tell us that when you lose the run scoring battle, you usually lose the game.

@BSK
So who did they have doing their broadcasting? John Madden?

Volrath-
Ha! That's classic. I'm not sure who it was. Madden is as good a guess as any.

Maybe the announcers did say that, but it really isn't official until they put it on a graphic with those damned power tool sound effects.
Who at TBS decided that fans wanted the ambiance of a truck factory on their surround sound?

I like these kind of postseason losing streaks lists for the World Series-only year. I love the 1915 to 1976 Phillies losing streak. That long of a stretch sounds like is should be 100+ games when it actually is only 11.

Spartan-
Great point. Maybe they are just recyling Fox's old robot sounds. Wait, what? They're still using the robot? A robot that any 12-year-old on an iPad could render?

And, yes, despite not being a blogger myself and having no idea how these stats are actually derived, I've probably just gained "mom's basement status" by using the word "render" appropriately.

The most amazing thing about the Twins-Yankees "rivalry" is that the Twins have lost 8 postseason games in a row to NYY and they had the lead in ALL EIGHT GAMES.
I don't know if there's already been a post devoted to this, but it would be really interesting to see the record for most consecutive come-from-behind wins and fall-from-ahead losses - regular season and postseason.

Can the Twins count their game 163 win over the Tigers last year, just to get off this list?

I love No. 9. All nine losses to my favorite team. And I love how Nos. 4-5 are each against four teams, and what strange combos of four teams, too.

The Red Sox' streak started with the Buckner game, by the way.

How do we define a "come from behind win"? Does it mean trailing at any point? Or trailing after a specific inning? Falling behind 1-0 after the top of the 1st and going on to win hardly seems like a "come from behind win" in any meaningful sense of the term. My guess is there isn't any "official" definition since I'm not sure this is really an "official" stat, but it seems like we should at least agree on what we are talking about.

At least the Twins won't have a chance to move into second all by themselves this year.
