Posted by Raphy on October 7, 2010
As an extension of Andy's post from earlier today, here are the pitchers with the highest game scores in their first career post-season game. Halladay is tied for second.

You could have named this post, "Who is the greatest player ever? How about the only guy who outdid Halladay's postseason debut"
October 7th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
A 14 inning complete game? I'd love to see the pitch count on that one...
If any pitcher nowadays were to pitch a 14 inning game, Halladay would be the guy to do it. In fact, in his career Doc has a pair of 10 inning complete games, one of which was a shutout on just 93 pitches.
October 7th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
Pitch count estimator puts it at 171.

How is Larsen not on the list?
October 7th, 2010 at 7:18 pm
Woops sorry, forgot it was only debuts.
October 7th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
Ruth's start came in game 2. Who the hell started game 1?!?! God?
October 7th, 2010 at 7:38 pm
Close.
It was Ernie Shore.
October 7th, 2010 at 7:54 pm
Boddicker followed up that game with a start in Game 2 of the WS. CG, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. Game score 85.
October 7th, 2010 at 8:06 pm
@8 Christy Mathewson is the only other player to start his post-season career with 2 starts of an 85+ game score.

Lincecum at 89 through eight. I'm guessing Wilson will pitch the ninth? But it's not clear.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:58 pm
Lincecum is starting the ninth. A perfect inning would at least tie him with Halladay and Walsh at 94; if he strikes out the side, he'd tie Ruth for first with a 97.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:04 pm
Lincecum pitches a 1-2-3 ninth, with strikeouts of Heyward and Lee. That's a game score of 96, if I've added it up correctly. Wow!
October 7th, 2010 at 11:16 pm
[...] Tim Lincecum has burst onto the scene for the Giants. Not only did Linceceum and Halladay put up 2 out of the top 3 game-scores for a post season debut, they also became just the third pair of pitchers to post game scores of over 90 in the same post [...]
October 7th, 2010 at 11:37 pm
Roy who?
Signed,
Tim Lincecum
October 7th, 2010 at 11:43 pm
Who had the netter night? Timmy or Halladay. Could make the argument either way. I watched both, and Timmy is right there.
I mean, no-hitters are fun, but both were incredibly dominant. Hitters: Pwned in both.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
Lincecum probably gets some extra credit for doing it in a one-run game. FanGraphs has his WPA at .711.
In any case, they were both spectacular. Here's hoping we see them face off in the NLCS.

I remember watching the Boddicker game. Beautiful performance.
October 8th, 2010 at 8:30 am
And if Posey was called out, which he was, Timmy would have gotten a ND!

Any list that contains a Babe, a Hod and a Rube is all right with me.
I thought Babe Adams, with his three-win 1909 Series against Detroit, might have made this list, but he never had a game score higher than 75.
