• September 15, 1917

  Purchased Jimmy Cooney from Providence (International). (Date given is approximate. Exact date is uncertain.)

• December 14, 1917

  Traded Vean Gregg, Merlin Kopp, Pinch Thomas and $60,000 to the Philadelphia Athletics. Received Bullet Joe Bush, Wally Schang and Amos Strunk.

• January 10, 1918

  Traded a player to be named later, Forrest Cady and Larry Gardner to the Philadelphia Athletics. Received Stuffy McInnis. The Boston Red Sox sent Tillie Walker (February 20, 1918) to the Philadelphia Athletics to complete the trade.

• February 14, 1918

  Traded Mickey Devine to Louisville (American Association) and cash to Toronto (International). Received George Whiteman.

• April 1, 1918

  Traded Rube Foster to the Cincinnati Reds. Received Dave Shean. Rube Foster refused to report to his new team. The Boston Red Sox sent cash (April 1, 1918) to the Cincinnati Reds to complete the trade.
