Biographical Information[edit]
William Burns was a catcher who played for the New York Gothams from 1855 until his death in 1857. He died in the sinking of the SS Central America off the Carolina Coast, making him one of the the earliest baseball players to die. Before his tragic death, Burns lived in California.
