Thanks for your interest in the Bullpen. Stay a while and contribute to the site. We'd appreciate the help from people interested in baseball. --Jeff 22:45, 30 May 2008 (EDT)

Adminship[edit]

The above section title name was added by User:RyanCross

To become an administrator, you have to contribute some quality edits for a while and be selected by one of the key-holders of the site. This place is a lot less bureaucratic than Wikipedia, as there are about two dozen of us making 95% of the edits. Good luck, welcome aboard. --Philippe 03:28, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

Sean Forman is the one who made me a SysOp in the days when we were facing a lot of vandalism on a daily basis and I was doing some clean-up in addition to edits. I don't know which others have the power to create SysOps. The most likely would be Michael Eng, Mischa or Jeff ("Just Me"). --Philippe 12:44, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Ryan, I may gave the right to create SysOps, but I have never done it. I try to focus my work here on contributions to the contents of the site, for a number of reasons. You'd be better off asking one of the other folks listed earlier for assistance. --Philippe 10:08, 10 August 2008 (EDT)

Renaming[edit]

The above section title name was added by User:RyanCross

Sorry. I thought that would do it. Do you want me to move you back? Kinston eagle 23:02, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

That would seem to do it. I created a User:Eagle and then moved the page to User:Blue_Jay. It wouldn't let me log on as User:Blue_Jay, but it did allow me to create a new account as User:Blue_Jay. So, it should let you create a new account as User:RyanCross. The only drawbacks would be that all your earlier contributions would still all be under the "my contributions" of your old account and it will ask you to perform simple math problems for short time whenever you edit. Blue Jay 23:30, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

I'm Kinston_eagle by the way. Blue Jay 23:32, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

Re: Admin[edit]

I'll reiterate my response in May and second Phillipe's response from then. We need all the help we can get expanding articles and adding information around here. --Jeff 15:11, 8 August 2008 (EDT)

Re: images[edit]

see Talk:1917 Cleveland Indians --Jeff 22:22, 8 August 2008 (EDT)

Sean did an update yesterday morning. There is now an odd edit supposedly by "Special:Contributions" at the top of the recent changes list, and also all of the images uploaded to the site are missing. These both seem to be because of the update. You'll notice on many pages the broken link to an image. Hopefully Sean will restore them all to the site. --Jeff 22:41, 8 August 2008 (EDT)

Sean Foreman is the guy who created Baseball-Reference.com and subsequently the bullpen. --Jeff 22:48, 8 August 2008 (EDT)

Top 20 Page[edit]

Reverted your edit to old one. Has been that way since I created the page some 2 years ago. Names do not need to be linked twice on a statistical page such as this page.--Dugout 16:10, 10 August 2008 (EDT)

Links[edit]

As to why major league isn't linked to from most pages, I personally don't see the need. People know what the major leagues are and it is a pain to add a link to every possible page. Do we link to RBI each time it comes up? It would be a lot of effort for little use IMO. - --Mischa 10:05, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

I second what Mischa says here. This is a specialized baseball site, so there are a number of terms that are considered generally known by baseball fans and would not be linked if used in passing in an article. In this way, we differ from Wikipedia, where the average reader may only have a passing knowledge of baseball, even if looking at an article about a baseball player. It would be appropriate here to link these terms if they are part of a definition, or used in a manner that highlights them. For example, to follow up on the RBI example, I would link it in an article about someone establishing an all-time RBI record, or in the sac fly article where it says the batter is credited with an RBI, but not when saying Joe Smith had 63 RBI in 1983. The links should be useful for the reader, and not simply be there to pad the page. --Philippe 10:25, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

Very well then. I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 13:28, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

As long as it is a talk page, I think it is fine. It is not character defamation and it is not on the main page. - --Mischa 08:48, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
