Biographical Information[edit]

George Lyons, also called Tony Lyons in some sources, pitched seven games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1920 and 26 for the St. Louis Browns in 1924. He was born in Bible Grove, IL, east of St. Louis, MO. Tony also had 13 years in the minors, including three seasons each with the Wichita Witches/Jobbers, the Los Angeles Angels and the Columbus Senators.

An article about Lyons calls him George, and refers to a son as George Lyons Jr. The father bought a farm in Missouri in the 1920s. He was a merchant and served as county treasurer. He managed a semi-pro team. The high school stadium for Nevada (MO) High School is named after George T. Lyons. [1] [2]
