Biographical Information

Tae-won Choi played 11 seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization. He played 1,014 consecutive games, a span that covered the vast majority of his career.

Choi debuted in 1993 with the Ssangbangwool Raiders and hit .263/.342/.313. He fell to .248/.339/.300 in 1994 but stole 31 bases in 43 tries. In '95, he batted .296/.342/.347 and swiped 29 bags in 43 attempts. He led the KBO that season with 147 hits.

In 1996, Choi batted .258/.323/.327. He had his career year in 1997 when he produced at a .306/.379/.386 rate and won the Gold Glove as the top all-around second baseman in the circuit. In '98, Tae-won hit .288/.350/.373, followed by .239/.318/.290 in 1999. He also broke Hyeong-seok Kim's consecutive games played record of 622 and would finish with 1,014 straight games.

In 2000, the Raiders were replaced by the SK Wyverns and the ironman hit .262/.348/.323. He batted .242/.332/.333 in 2001 and .262/.331/.327 in 2002. He wrapped up in 2003 by going 5 for 24 with two walks and two doubles in 33 games.

Overall, Choi hit .268/.341/.373 with 130 steals in 202 tries over 1,284 career games.

Choi coached for the Wyverns and KIA Tigers after his playing career ended.
