Start

A player is credited with a start or game started by being listed in the team's starting lineup. It is usually abbreviated "GS".

This statistic is particularly relevant for pitchers, where there is a clear distinction between starting pitchers and relief pitchers. A pitcher who makes a lot of starts is known colloquially as a "workhorse".
