Biographical Information

Seung-an Yoo was a two-time Gold Glove winner in the Korea Baseball Organization. He is the father of Won-sang Yoo.

Seung-an Yoo played for the South Korean national team in the 1980 Amateur World Series. When the KBO was founded in 1982, he was an inaugural member of the MBC Blue Dragons, hitting .254/.343/.479. Yoo fell to .237/.317/.279 in 1983, the second-worst season of his pro career. In 1984, he moved to the Haitai Tigers and hit .263/.385/.466, followed by .272/.333/.470 in 1985.

With his third club, the Binggrae Eagles, Yoo batted .238/.321/.340 in 1986. He improved to .308/.351/.470 in 1987 and won the Gold Glove at DH. In the KBO, the Gold Glove goes to the best player overall at each position, which explains how a designated hitter can win a Gold Glove Award. It was Yoo's best season in terms of contact hitting.

In 1988, Yoo batted .263/.363/.475 with 15 homers. The next year, he put up a .281/.363/.492 line for his best OPS. He smacked a career-high 21 home runs and drove in a career-best 85 in 115 games. He won the Gold Glove at catcher and also led the league in RBI. He was the first catcher other than Man-soo Lee to win a Gold Glove since 1982.

Yoo fell to .256/.338/.440 in 1990 at age 33/34, then only .170/.212/.181 in 1991 and retired. Overall, he had hit .263/.341/.431 in 787 KBO games. He managed the Hanwha Eagles in 2003-2004.
