Biographical Information[edit]

René Acevedo set the Puerto Rican amateur league record with 149 career homers (Néstor Morales had held the record at 102) over 21 seasons (20 of them with the Patrulleros de San Sebastián). He also had over 600 career hits. He hit .400 in 1974 and set single-season records of 15 homers (the old mark was 11) and 46 RBI in 1975 while hitting .414. He set another RBI mark with 50 in '79. He batted .412 and topped his home run record with 16 in 1981; Eddie Ahorrio broke it six years later. In 1985, he set a new career record when he drove in his 467th run. He homered every 12.5 at-bats in his career.

He led the 1973 FEMBA Amateur World Series with 3 home runs and 11 RBI while his Puerto Rican national team won the Bronze Medal. Several future major leaguers played for the US that year.
