Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Ramon Couto played in the minor leagues from 1928 to 1929, 1931 to 1934, 1936 to 1941 and 1944 to 1945. He was a regular .300 hitter, batting .318 in 261 at-bats for the Beckley Black Knights his first year, then .313 in 307 at-bats the next season. After a down year in 1933, he hit .314 for the Memphis Chickasaws in 1934. In 1935, he played for the New York Cubans of the Negro National League. In 1936, he hit .338 in 145 at-bats for the York White Roses/Trenton Senators, and for the Mayodan Senators in 1937, he hit .340/.447/.475 with 62 walks (to 21 strikeouts) in 87 games. In 1938, he hit .318/.428/.440 with 79 RBI and 75 walks (to 32 Ks) in 116 games for Mayodan (now the Millers). In 1939, he hit .345 in 91 games for Mayodan.
He also managed the Millers in 1939.
He was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.
