Biographical Information

Onelki Garcia has pitched in the majors in 2013 and 2017.

Garcia debuted with Guantánamo in 2007-2008, going 3-3 with a 6.66 ERA and 35 walks in 48 2/3 IP. In 2008-2009, the southpaw had a 4-2, 4.42 record with 69 strikeouts but 40 walks in 71 1/3 innings. He went 5-6 with a 4.90 ERA in 2009-2010, walking 51 in 84 2/3 IP. He tied Raudel Lazo, Danny Betancourt and Ramón Licor for 7th in the Cuban Serie Nacional in walks.

Garcia then defected. The Los Angeles Dodgers took him in the 3rd round of the 2012 amateur draft, their 4th overall selection after Corey Seager, Jesmuel Valentin and Paco Rodriguez. Dennis Moeller and Mike Brito were the scouts. He struck out four in two shutout innings for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes that summer. Baseball America rated him as LA's #7 prospect (between Chris Reed and Rodriguez) entering 2013 and as having the best curveball in their chain. He opened 2013 with the Chattanooga Lookouts (2-3, Sv, 2.75 in 25 G, 32 BB, 53 K in 52 1/3 IP) and moved up to the Albuquerque Isotopes (0-1, 3.72 in 10 G, 14 K in 9 2/3 IP).

Garcia was a September call-up to the Dodgers in 2013. In his major league debut, he relieved Carlos Marmol in the top of the 9th with a 4-1 deficit against the Arizona Diamondbacks on September 11th. His old control problems remained unresolved as he walked Adam Eaton on four pitches and was succeeded by Peter Moylan.
