Biographical Information[edit]

Minor league pitcher Nick DeMatteis played professionally from 1962 to 1966. He arrived on the scene with a bang, going 12-6 with a 2.37 ERA, 13 complete games and four shutouts in 28 games (18 starts) for the Statesville Owls his first year. He also had 161 strikeouts in 156 innings. He then went 14-7 with a 2.15 ERA with 19 complete games and six shutouts in 31 games (23 starts) between two clubs in 1963. He had 237 strikeouts and allowed just 143 hits in 193 innings pitched. On July 16, 1964, he tossed a no-hitter against the Tulsa Oilers.

He finished his career with a 44-38 record, 46 complete games, 11 shutouts and a 3.40 ERA in 147 games (86 starts). In 726 innings, he allowed 633 hits and had 714 strikeouts. After baseball, he served 32 years as a police officer in Waterbury.
