Mike Evans
Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Evans has been a very successful college coach.
He was head coach at Omaha Creighton Prep High School for eight years (1975-1982), winning seven state titles. Evans was an assistant at the University of Nebraska.
He has been the longtime head baseball coach at Bellevue University, taking over that role in 1988. He led the squad to the 1995 NAIA College World Series title. His school made nine appearances in the NAIA College World Series in 10 years from 1999-2008.
Through 2009, Evans has a career record of 885-411-1. He has been named his Conference's Coach of the Year nine times in his first 20 years. He was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1995. Evans' contract was not renewed after the 2010 season due to allegations made that a transfer document from Sam Houston State for player Jon Reed was never received by Bellevue Athletics’ Director Ed Lehotak. The school was forced to vacate 40 wins from the 2010 season. Evans was later exonerated of all wrongdoing [1].
Evans was eventually hired as pitching coach of New Mexico State University for 2012. He again was involved in controversy as in 2014 he told school officials that other coaches and Aggie players had been drinking together and driving drunk before games, and that multiple players had been using marijuana [2].
