Biographical Information[edit]

Mathew Kennelly signed with the Atlanta Braves at age 16 after being scouted by Phil Dale. He played for Australia in the 2006 World Junior Championship. In 2007, he debuted for the GCL Braves, hitting an unimpressive .215/.270/.308 while fielding .996 behind the plate. During the 2008 Claxton Shield, he hit .298/.377/.447. In 2008, he played for the Danville Braves (.246/.278/.371 in 44 games) and Rome Braves (16 for 35, 2 BB, 5 2B, 10 RBI in 10 games); between the two stops, he threw out over half of the runners who tried to steal against him (30 of 53). He was on the provisional Australian roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Matt is the brother of minor leaguers Tim Kennelly, Sam Kennelly and Josh Kennelly. He and Tim were teammates on the Western Australia Heelers who won the 2008 Claxton Shield. They were also both on Australia's team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
