Mashi: The Unfulfilled Baseball Dreams of Masanori Murakami, the First Japanese Major Leaguer
(Redirected from Mashi)
Mashi: The Unfulfilled Baseball Dreams of Masanori Murakami, the First Japanese Major Leaguer is a book written by Robert Fitts and published in 2015. It chronicles the life of Masanori Murakami, the first major leaguer from Japan. The book focuses primarily on his time in the US minors and majors in 1964-1965 with an afterword on the remainder of his pro career, which was much longer. Fitts interviews numerous concerned parties and details the media's use of degrading ethnic humor in covering Murakami, his unpromising initial encounter with his future wife and his interactions with and impressions of famous major leaguers like Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and Pete Rose.
