Biographical Information[edit]

Mario Encarnacion played 23 games in the big leagues with the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs, split between 2001 and 2002.

In 2005, he was playing for the Macoto Cobras of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. At one point, he was suspended for ten games for a failed drug test, which he contested. Later in the year, team officials found him dead in his room. The cause was later determined to be a congenital medical condition. Encarnacion had been suffering from gastroenteritis around the time of his death. He was 30 years old.

When he passed away, Encarnacion was second in the CPBL with 17 home runs. His headstone was paid for by childhood friend Miguel Tejada.
