Maxim Shevchenko has played for Russia on the international stage.

In the 2008 European Cup, the 17-year-old was bombarded for 16 runs in 4 innings for MGPU SYOS 42 in a loss to DOOR Neptunus. For the tourney, he allowed 15 hits, 17 runs and 8 walks in 5 1/3 IP. He was the youngest player on the Russian entry. In the 2008 World Junior Championship, he took the loss against Team USA in a mismatch. He had a 5.87 ERA and no decisions in the 2009 European Junior Championship. By 2011, he was with the Russian senior national team, tossing four shutout innings (2 H, BB, 4 K) in a win over Belarus.
