Biographical Information[edit]
Although drafted out of Mount Vernon (NY) High School in 1979, Roy Smith attended Fordham University in the off-season, majoring in business administration. He was also known as LeRoy Smith during his playing days.
After his playing career ended, Smith spent time as a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1994-1996) then worked in the club's front office. He was assistant general manager from 1999 to 2004. For two years, he worked under Paul DePodesta with the Dodgers as VP for scouting and player development (2005-2006) before returning to Pittsburgh as a special assistant to Dave Littlefield.
