Biographical Information[edit]
Lamar Dorton played in the Pittsburgh Pirates system from 1948 to 1951 and from 1954 to 1955. He played in the New York Yankees organization in 1956. He reached as high as the Open classification (1954). In college, he had been the 3rd-ranked placekicker in the nation.
Dorton hit over .300 twice, first in his rookie campaign, when he batted .310 in 73 games for the Uniontown Coal Barons and then in 1955, when he hit .309 in 80 games for the Burlington-Graham Pirates.
He also managed in the Pirates system, heading the Hutchinson Elks (1954, replacing George Genovese mid-season), Burlington-Graham Pirates (1955) and Salem Rebels (1957-1959). He later had a long career in dentistry.
