Biographical Information

An outfielder and first baseman for the Tokyo Giants in the Japan Professional Baseball League, Kentaro Ito hit .231/.394/.385 in the spring of 1936 and .189/.325/.358 that fall; he led the league with four triples. In the spring of '37, his line was .248/.377/.396 and he followed in the fall at .236/.349/.375. He hit .320/.453/.437 in the spring of 1938, fifth in the league in average. In the fall, he batted .289/.402/.430 and was again fifth in average. He did not play in 1939-41. Returning in 1942, the Giants outfielder batted .239/.288/.338 and led the league with 18 doubles. His last season, he put up a .152/.215/.275 line to finish his career at .238/.337/.366 in a low-offense era. He died one year later, killing in combat during World War II.
