Biographical Information[edit]

José Silva was hit hard in the 2007 Pan American Games with a 33.83 ERA for the Bronze Medal-winning Mexican national team. He allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning in a 8-1 loss to the Cuban national team and tossed 2/3 scoreless against Venezuela in a 3-2 win. The 2007 Pan-American Games site accidentally listed him as Jose Silva Leonez; Mexican and Cuban news sources give the correct name. No one named Jose Silva Leonez has ever pitched in pro ball. Silva was again with the Mexican squad for the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament; in four games, he allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs in 4 2/3 IP as Mexico failed to advance to the 2008 Olympics. He got the win against the Australian national team despite blowing a 3-2 lead in relief, allowing a game-tying single to Luke Hughes. After Mexico scored three runs in the top of the 8th, Silva allowed another run when Tom Brice doubled and Hughes singled him home. Silva was yanked for a reliever.

Silva coached for Mexico in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.
