Biographical Information

Jong-Hun Jang held the record for most career home runs in the Korea Baseball Organization from 1999 to 2009. He is currently a minor league coach for the Hanwha Eagles.

Jang was signed by the Eagles, then known as the Binggrae Eagles, in 1986 out of high school. His breakout year came in 1990 when he hit with an average of 0.290, 28 home runs (leading the league) and 91 RBI. The next year he hit even better with 35 home runs, 113 RBI and a 0.345 batting average, missing a the triple crown by three points. He also won his first MVP award. In 1992 Jang had a line of 0.299-41-119, again winning the MVP award. His 41 home runs and 119 RBI were a KBO record until broken by Tyrone Woods (42 in 1998) and Seung-Yeop Lee (123 in 1999), respectivly. He also won Gold Gloves at shortstop (1988, 1990), first base (1992 and 1995) and at designated hitter in 1991. On May 23, 1999 Jang hit home run number 253 besting Man Soo Lee's 252.

When he retired on September 15, 2005, Jang held the KBO record in; home runs (340), games played (1949), at-bats (6290), runs (1043), total bases (3172), walks (997), and most strikeouts (1354).

In 2007, his run record was broken by Jun-ho Jeon. In 2009, Jang's KBO home run record was broken by Joon-hyuk Yang.
