Jhonny Polanco has pitched in the minors.

Polanco signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in May 2009. That summer, he gave up 12 hits, 10 walks and 11 runs in 9 1/3 IP for the VSL Cardinals. With the same club a year later, he improved to 2-1, 3.62 with a save, though his control was still an issue (19 BB in 27 1/3 IP). In 2011, the teenager moved up to the DSL Cardinals and posted a 3-2, 4.33 record. He split 2012 between the GCL Cardinals (1-3, 4 Sv, 1.91, 38 K in 33 IP) and Quad Cities River Bandits (3 R in 6 IP), making a good debut in the US.

Polanco pitched for the Nicaraguan national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone outing in the event, the right-hander worked an inning, allowing one run.
