Biographical Information

James Durham pitched three games in the majors with the Chicago White Sox shortly before he turned 21 years old in 1902. He was 11 years younger than teammate George Davis.

James was born in Douglass, KS and attended college in the same state at Southwestern College in 1900-1901. He pitched in the minors in 1902 for the Cedar Rapids Rabbits and came up near the end of that season with the White Sox. Thereafter he continued to pitch for many years (till at least 1916) in the minors. Most notably, he went 24-13 for the 1910 Wichita Jobbers, a Kansas-based team. He played for Wichita for parts of at least six seasons and was with the Kansas City Blues for parts of four.

He managed in the minors in 1905 and 1911.

Durham was named James Garfield Durham. He was born roughly three months after President James Garfield was assassinated.
