Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Ed Sweeney, also known as "Jeff", was the first player from Loyola University of Chicago to come to the majors. He played nine years in the majors, and was with the New York American League team when it changed its name from the Highlanders to the Yankees. He had played only one year in the minors before breaking in with the Highlanders.
Hal Chase was his teammate for the most of the time that Ed was with the New York Highlanders/Yankees.
The only other player whose name is Ed and whose last name starts "Sw" is Ed Swartwood.
