Biographical Information[edit]

James Hairston was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round, 19th overall, of the 1968 amateur draft. He played in their system until 1972, never advancing past A-ball.

The outfielder played 281 games, hitting .264 with seven home runs and 31 doubles in 927 at-bats. He hit .323 in his first professional season, split between the GCL Cardinals and Cedar Rapids Cardinals, but did not hit higher than .272 in any subsequent season.
