Biographical Information[edit]

Xan Barksdale was a catcher in the Atlanta Braves minor league system from 2004 to 2006.

He played with the GCL Braves his first year, going 12 for 47 with 3 doubles, 2 home runs and four walks as a 4th-string catcher. In 2005, he was an organizational catcher, bouncing between the Danville Braves (6 for 35, BB, 15 K), Rome Braves (8 for 47, HR, BB, 24 K) and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (5 for 26, 3 BB, 2B). In 2006, he wrapped up his career with the Pelicans by going 3 for 44 with 19 whiffs and two homers. Overall, he had hit .171/.217/.266 in 71 minor league games, with good power (5 HR in 199 AB) but way too many strikeouts (75 K) and not enough contact. He fielded .995 and threw out 24% of opposing base-stealers, while committing 8 passed balls in 35 games behind the plate.

After his playing career ended, he was an assistant coach for the University of Louisville (2007-2011) and East Tennessee State University (2012-2015).
