Biographical Information[edit]

J.C. Hartman bucked the youth movement with the Houston Colt .45's. Many of his teammates were ten years younger than him (Joe Morgan was the most famous) when Hartman played with Houston in 1962 and 1963.

Hartman had played in the Negro Leagues and while with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1955 was chosen to play in the East-West Game. Starting in 1956, he served in the Army, and played on the All-Army Champion Team along with singer Charley Pride and a couple of future major leaguers.

He attended barber college, but when he stopped playing baseball he entered a career as a policeman. Around the year 2000, he owned and managed apartment complexes.
