A productive hitter in Cuba, Isaac Martínez has never reached the peaks of stardom. Through 2008, he has never led the Cuban Serie Nacional in a key department and he only spent one year with the Cuban national team. He has been the leader offensively for Ciego de Ávila on numerous occasions.

Martínez debuted for Cuba in the 1999 Pan American Games, not only an Olympic qualifier, but the first time Cuba faced strong professional competition. Isaac put on a show, hitting .409 with a homer as Cuba's top contact hitter as they won Gold and a slot in the 2000 Olympics. In the 1999 Intercontinental Cup, he hit .267/.400/.400 with 5 runs in 7 games; he had one assist from right field and made no errors.

In 14 seasons, Isaac has hit .313 and slugged .405 in Cuban play through the 2007-2008 Serie Nacional. Mostly at DH in 2008-2009, the veteran batted .352/.456/.541 and tied Alfredo Despaigne for 7th in the league with 25 doubles.
