Biographical Information[edit]

"Once, we saw the Senators' flamboyant submarine pitcher, Horacio Pina, as he caught his spikes and tripped in mid-delivery. He rolled down the mound in a sideways tangle as though he'd somehow nailed his own hand to the ground. For years, when somebody tried to be too flashy and fell on his face, my mother would intone, 'Horaaaacio Piiiina.'" Thomas Boswell: "The Church of Baseball", in Geoffrey C. Ward and Ken Burns: Baseball: An Illustrated History, Alfred A. Knopf, New York, NY, 1994, p. 191.
