Biographical Information

The son of longtime Illinois Congressman Henry Hyde, Henry Hyde Jr. grew up in the Chicago area and attended Loyola Academy for high school. A pitcher, he played baseball for one year at Loyola University New Orleans before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1970. He had previously been picked in the 9th round of the 1968 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers

He played in the minors for the Niagara Falls Pirates (2-2, one save, 3.00 in 1970; 40 strikeouts in 27 IP) and Salem Rebels (4-3, 2 Sv, 4.50 in 35 relief appearances in 1971; 54 walks in 58 innings) in the Pirates organization and later the Greenwood Braves in the Atlanta Braves farm system (21.60 ERA in 3 games in 1973; 13 walks and 10 hits allowed in 5 innings). An arm injury cut his pro career short.

Hyde died of liver cancer in 2005 at age 55. At the time of his death, he was working for the Illinois Secretary of State's office as a revenue agent.
