Edwin Fernández was raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He worked as a banker and in computing. He has been a sportswriter, baseball historian, member of the Board of Directors for the International Press Association, chaired the Latino Baseball Committee for SABR, founded SABR's Puerto Rico chapter, been on the Board of the Puerto Rico Sports Hall of Fame and been on the selection committee of the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame. He is the co-editor and part-author of Puerto Rico and Baseball: 60 Biographies.
