Dottie Wiltse played seven years in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and was known as the league's strikeout queen. She began her career with the Minneapolis Millerettes in 1944 and paced the circuit with 205 strikeouts. The next year she moved on to the Fort Wayne Daisies and led the league in strikeouts (293), shutouts (17), and winning percentage (.744). On August 28th of that year, she won both games of a doubleheader and met the man she would eventually marry.

After marrying, Collins missed part of the 1948 season due to pregnancy. Overall, she was 117-76 with a 1.81 ERA and 1004 strikeouts in seven seasons.
