Michael Donald Grant

Biographical Information[edit]

M. Donald Grant served as chairman and minority owner of the New York Mets from 1962 to 1978. In the 1950s, he was a member of the New York Giants board of directors. After Lorinda de Roulet assumed primary ownership of the Mets following the death of her mother, Joan Payson, the team's original owner, Grant's control of the team increased multifold, with many claiming his penurious nature and lack of knowledge of baseball contributed to the team's 1970s malaise. He was ousted in a boardroom coup in 1978, with de Roulet taking over as chair of the board of directors in addition to her existing title of team President. She then orchestrated the sale of the team to Nelson Doubleday for a record amount at the time.

His father was hockey Hall of Famer Michael Grant.
