Biographical Information

Dan Minnehan played major league baseball in September 1895.

Dan was nearly 30 years old at the time, and played 8 games at third base for the 1895 Louisville Colonels. The regular third baseman that year was Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins, who was a rookie at the time and not having a particularly impressive year with the bat. Collins had been loaned to the Colonels by the Boston Beaneaters and before the following season was returned to the Beaneaters.

Minnehan, for his part, hit .382 compared to Collins' .279. His fielding percentage was about the same as Collins, but his range (in a very limited sampling) was lower.

Dan was born in Troy, NY, a hotbed of early baseball. He played at least 12 seasons in the minors. In 1894-96 he spent most of his time with the Syracuse Stars of the Eastern League.

The book Baseball Fiends and Flying Machines' states that Minnehan was part of a team that toured Cuba in the winter of 1890-91.
