Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Bernardo López played for the Mexican national team and in the Mexican League.

López debuted in 1943, hitting .253/.332/.344 (77 OPS+) for the Azules de Veracruz and Pericos de Puebla. He tied for 9th in the LMB with six triples. [1] With Puebla in 1944, he hit .229/.317/.294 for a 62 OPS+. [2] He tied for the 1944 Amateur World Series lead with two homers (even with Jesús Díaz and Adolfredo González as Mexico won Silver. [3]

In 1945, he batted .217/.310/.286 for the Pericos. [4] He bounced up to .271/.346/.385 with a career-high 17 doubles, 2 homers, 78 hits, 30 runs and 40 RBI in 1946. In '47, he was down to .230/.300/.272. Down to 30 games in 1948, he batted .226/.324/.226. He produced at a .251/.388/.309 for Veracruz in 1949. In '50, he hit .186/.270/.215. He was 1 for 12 in 1951. He wound down his career as a backup for the 1952 Diablos Rojos del México, batting .230/.352/.284.

Overall, he had hit .235/.327/.300 with 168 runs and 183 RBI in 594 LMB games. He later managed the Petroleros de Poza Rica from 1960-1962 and finished 1962 with the Salamanca Petroleros after being replaced in Poza Rica.
