While the BR page indicates that the 1880 Buffalo Bisons were managed all season by Sam Crane, contemporary documents indicate that this was not the case. Crane began the season as a player for the team, but his poor performance earned him his release on May 20th. But less than a week later, on May 25th, he was brought back on board, this time as manager, replacing Bill McGunnigle, who had been the manager up to that point.
