Big Leaguers From Italy

So, maybe this is strange focusing on Italy on the day before St. Patrick’s Day? But, I recently read that Mariners’ prospect Alex Liddi – who was recently cut from Seattle’s big league spring camp – may soon be the first player in the major leagues, in a half-century, who was born in Italy.

Players with -100 career fielding runs

O, Canada

Today, I attended a Little League Coaches Clinic run by "Big Al" Price and his son Scott.

"Big Al" does a great job at these sessions - and he's from Canada. So, in his honor, I decided to look at some of the best big league players who were born there.

Brett Carroll: Getting Hit at a Historic Rate

Despite only coming to the plate 90 times in 2010, the Marlin's Brett Carroll managed to get  hit by 7 pitches.  In MLB history not too many players have managed to be hit by a pitch at least once every 13 trips to the plate.  Here are the leaders in HBP since 1901 to be hit at that rate.

Mark Grudzielanek scored really high on this list last year although he had a better season (as measured by OPS+) than most. The only other fairly recent season on here is Mike Gallego's 1995.
