Posted by Steve Lombardi on November 1, 2010

So far, in the 2010 Fall Classic, the Giants have 4 players to have 3+ hit games in the series. What's the record for the most players on a team to have 3+ hit games in a World Series?

Here's the answer - with games through last night's contest:

.

Thanks to all those laughers in the '60 Series, the Yankees have the record. Of course, as the Pirates that year can tell you, he who laughs last, laughs best.

That was an astounding series. Pittsburgh was outscored 55-27 and won.

I count 7 World Series (1993, 1991, 1982, 1979, 1973, 1924, and the infamous Black Sox series of 1919) in which both teams made the list. In addition to the losers of those 7 and the 1960 Yankees, I see a several other situations in which the losing team made the list, including the 2006 Tigers, 2003 Yankees, 2002 Giants, 1986 Red Sox, 1968 Cardinals, 1959 White Sox, 1953 Dodgers, 1951 Giants, and 1945 Cubs. I am not familiar with the results of a lot of the pre-war World Series, so I can't determine if there are any others.

Most of the World Series I've mentioned here went seven games, while a few, including 1993 with its 15-14 Game 4, went six games, but I believe 2006 only went five. Either the Tigers wasted some of those 3+ hit efforts, or they were all concentrated in that one victory.
