Team with the most 2-HR games by its players in a year
Posted by Andy on January 2, 2008
This is a Game Finder search for games with 2 or more homers by an individual player. But instead of sorting by player or by year, I sorted by teams with the most such games in a year. So it counts games where 1 player hit 2 or more homers (not where just any old combination of players hit at least 2 homers.)
I expected the leader to be a recent team, but I was wrong.
Here are all the teams since 1957 with at least 20 such games in a season:

Wow, that May 30th game was a doozie, with Mantle, Skowron, and Maris all hitting 2 homers each. And how about July 25th, when Maris hit 2 HR in both ends of a double header. Interesting that no Yankee hit 3 HR in a game that year (although that shouldn't be so surprising since there have been only 10 3-HR games by Yankees since 1957.)
The Braves performance in 1966 was also nice if you want to click on that list of games.

it makes some sense this yankees team would have many 2 HR games. one of 14 teams to have 6+ guys with 20+ homers and the ONLY team to have 2 guys with 50+ homers.

That '66 Braves season was their first in Atlanta. In their first game representing Atlanta, Joe Torre clubbed two home runs, but those were the only runs the Braves scored in an extra inning 3-2 loss.

I was at both the O'Neill and Stanley 3-HR games in '95, first times a Yankee had done it in 18 years.
