JT-
That probably shows that there shouldn't be a limit on the number of names a voter can select. If there are 15 deserving candidates, he/she should be able to choose all 15. I'm sure every now and then some crackpot could vote for EVERYONE just to make some weird point, but the same guy could also just choose the 10 least deserving or some other crazy thing. I can't really think of any other reason (and that's barely a reason, if at all) why they have the limit. Maybe counting more is too hard? Wouldn't surprise me...

Weirdly, the NFL elects only the same number (five?) every year - no more, no less. And they have more players.

yes, I ll agree that it was a crowded ballot...abd ge did get in hs first year of eligibility. He was certainly a way better pitcher then Robin Boboerts, i think if you compare thei records, spahn was 77 and 1. won 77 more lost only one more then Roberts. if Ford had had more startes earty in his career (Casey spooted him agianst thte tough pitchers), he wold have had more wins.
Bit you give respect to those who earn it and you give your vote on the first ballot and Spahn deserved more then 83.2% on the first ballot, just as Willie Mays and Hank Aaron didnt deserve anything less then 100%. And any writer who didnt want to give his vote to men like that on the fist ballot doesnt know S&/(T from shinola about greatness in baseball or is irationally prejudiced.
It will be interesting to see if Petite has to wait and how long and what the percentage will be..

Winning for a pitcher is nice, but let's remember that it's not as important as other virtues.
I'll take the 11-16, 2.14 guy over the 22-9, 4.19 guy any day.
